Policies

Health & Safety

Our school prioritizes the health and safety of our students above all else. We strictly follow NYC Department of Education guidelines as regards COVID 19, as well as all in-school safety procedures, including the use of door alarms, a School Safety Officer, and lockdown procedures.

Homework

Homework is an essential part of the school program and one way in which children can bring part of the educational experience into the home.  Homework is for review purposes.  Homework is not meant to be stressful.  Therefore, it is up to the student, family and teacher to share the responsibilities for homework.

Grading

PS 68’s grading policy applies to every grade level:

  • Report cards are distributed 3 times per year (November, March, and June)
  • Grades are cumulative and show students’ progress throughout the year
  • All courses are graded on a 1-4 scale except Art & Health which are graded pass (P)/ fail (F).

The school wide grading policy uses subject specific benchmark charts such as Teacher’s College benchmark reading levels and the Teacher’s College Rubrics for Narrative, Informational and Opinion Writing in order to determine these grades.  Math and content area subjects will be graded based upon unit tests and/or projects.

Uniforms

Our school has a uniform policy where we ask all children to purchase and wear our school polo shirt every day, except for special “spirit days” and holidays.
